SHELBY — With the help of Project Safe Neighborhood, CommUnity is able to provide it’s third year of Midnight Basketball — and its kick-off event is tonight.
The program — which has more than 200 participants this year — is a competitive and fun way for youth around Shelby to spend their Friday nights. Marta Holden, CommUnity’s director, said the number of participants grows every year, as well as what the program can offer. Currently the program has three divisions, high school boys, middle school boys and girls.
"We’ve got tons of volunteers and coaches," Mrs. Holden said.
Midnight Basketball will be at three locations for the next six Fridays — the final night will be open to the community to come and support the players.
The program is $10 and includes snacks and a jersey. There’s still time to register at the door tonight, but organizers will need a parent’s signature. For more information call Marta Holden at (704) 484-1080.
